Fauxtography in the Workplace
I carry my camera gear with me like a mill stone around my neck. It's heavy, it's awkward and it causes me untold headaches when trying to pack my bag for air travel. I live in perpetual fear that one day EasyJet will weigh my hand luggage and throw my gear in the hold, only to be returned in tiny fragments and a bill for the privilege.
I'm not even sure why I do it. I work aboard a busy ship and find so little time to take my camera out of the bag that any sane person would have long stopped with the circus of secreting their densest electronics in a puffer jacket midsummer heat of Madrid. But apparently I don't learn good.
The self inflicted burden was justified this time though as we got a couple of days alongside, hiding bravely from the the recent bad weather. I finally got a shot that I've been wanting to take for quite some time. It's nothing special, but the light was excellent, the conditions were right and it all aligned with my schedule perfectly. My part-time home alongside in its home port of Southampton. Rust streaks and all.
